County Historian Dan Krieger.
Dan Krieger is a longtime resident of San Luis Obispo. In 1971 he joined the faculty at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California in the History Department. He is a NEH Fellow of the Newberry Library in state, regional, and family history. For the past 24 years he has authored a weekly column on local history for the San Luis Obispo County Tribune.
Dr. Krieger is a published author, including Looking Backward into the Middle Kingdom: An Illustrated History of San Luis Obispo County (Windsor, 1988, REV) and co-author of War Comes to the Middle Kingdom: A History of the Central Coast, 1940 - 1943. Dr. Krieger recently completed a modern history of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Krieger has served in a wide variety of California professional and governmental offices and currently Dr. Krieger serves as Chair of the Centennial Committee for California, California Polytechnic State University.
He is the immediate past-president of the California Mission Studies Association (2006-2012) and is the author of the forthcoming Chronicles of San Luis Obispo (History Press, 2015) based on a collection of his favorite columns from Times Past. Dan serves as the volunteer curator and chair of the Museum Committee at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa
