WAGONS OF BOOKS

The Raising a Reader Wagons of Books will started rolling on November 3 with Bauer Early Learning Center in Paso Robles! Bauer is a site with both Head Start and State Pre-Schools. Our friendly glasses-wearing bear (named Julia)  helped welcome pre-school children and their families to our wagons. Families and caregivers chose books for other children in the family as well so that the whole family can enjoy reading night together.

The other sites we will be visiting are Georgia Brown Elementary in Paso, Oceano Elementary and Grover Beach Elementary Early Learning Programs. We will take our Wagons of Books to each site once a month. We are so excited to launch this program and appreciate all the support from Monday Club members and the Board.

The RAR Committee

RAISING A READER is a national, award-winning, early childhood literacy program which helps family develop, practice, and maintain home literacy routines.

RAR provides children a bookbag, 4 books (rotating the selection weekly), and library introduction with first library card

RAR also provides parents and guardians training and resources for literacy and oral language development, to support a child’s reading readiness and family bonding.

TMC members on the Raising a Reader Committee:

  • volunteer as classroom readers
  • assemble and distribute book bags
  • fundraise on behalf of Raising a Reader
  • make donations for books for children

TMC LITTLE LIBRARY

The Monday Club and Raising A Reader committee are working to create a Little Library on the Clubhouse grounds to share with the SLO Community. The structure of the Little Library is being constructed by local wood craftsman Gary Smith, and will be filled with books by the Raising A Reader committee. The books will be available for anyone to borrow.
